My son has to have surgery for his testicles?? Has anyone went through it? Please Help!!?!?!?
My son is 6 months old, and when he was born one of his ball didnt drop, and now they are going to preform surgery to bring it down. They also said that there is a chance that there may not be one. Is there any guy out there that has had this surgery? Does it effect you in any way? And this is a weird question, but does any guy out there only have one? I know its very private but Im very concerned about the effect on him if he only has one. Does it effect your ability to have children? Are you embarrassed or ashamed? Please help I really need answers

One of my guy friends got a surgery on one when he was 13. He had to get a prostetic ball. Didn't affect him though. He's perfectly normal in every way!

dont fret so much, it does happen. it'll be okay, even if it doesnt drop. just be vigilant if it doesnt. usually it should be fine, just be aware of it is all. there are quite a few men with only one, its fine. Unless youre always like its ok your normal your normal, normal, normal, then he'll be like, whats wrong with me?! get me?? its cool, he'll be fine, thats just the way god made him =) there should be no major problems. Good luck with the surgery

One testicle is quite enough to father many, many children. While it isn't common to only have one testicle it is not unheard of so,don't worry,I am sure that everything will be fine. When I was younger a friend of mine had only one testicle but,he was ok it made no difference to him.

This would be the last place I would give out info like that about my 6 month old. Why don't you get a second opinion if his first doctor didn't clarify the procedure for you.

Yes there are boys and men out there with only one from various injuries or diseases or birth problems. It doesn't make them "less a man." Just don't publicize it, other children can be mean. Yes, they have children and an active sex life.

My brother had this happen when he was a kid. You have better doctors than he did, because he was 11 when the Dr FINALLY admitted that neither of his testicles had dropped. They went in and did surgery. It was painful but he isn't traumatized by it though he won't talk about it, he says it's too embarrassing.
I also have two friends who've lost a testicle in various ways. They both are still futile. We aren't sure about my brother, he's 27 and hasn't married yet. The only effect this MIGHT have on your son is delayed puberty. However because it was spotted so early this might not be the case. And even if happens they can help him along with a serious of shots. Honestly as birth defects go, this is minor and you are very lucky to have a healthy baby boy. God bless!

I was born with an undecended testicle. The only thing they do is pull it down and tie a loop around it and tie it together on the outside with a button. Like stiches, the string will dissolve and the button will fall off. They may tie on another one if the testicle doesn't stay down.

There are no side effects from the problem and no scaring unless there are complications. I am living a normal life with no problems with sperm production or any other sexual problems.

In most cases everything turns out alright. Providing the one he has can still produce sperm (it should once he's old enough) he should be fine whether with one or two testicles.

He shouldn't be embarrassed or ashamed, really, think about it, do girls really pay much attention to the scrotum/balls?

The only risk that I've read on many sites is that guys who has undescended testicles are at a higher risk of testicular cancer when older. But guys should check themselves starting around 15 (yes, it can hit young guys, too). But if caught that's easily treatable.

I really like Dr. Greene's website; it includes the risks and statistics of what can happen:

http://www.drgreene.org/body.cfm?id=49&action=Display&articlenum=973

And the surgery:

Best of luck; I wish your son the best!

It's rare for a male to have an undescended testicle but yes it is possible for surgery to bring it down into the scrotum.

Also in the event that the undescended testicle isn't hiding up there, it's not going to affect his sexual performance later in life, there have been cases where a man has lost a testicle due to accident, but can function well on one testicle alone.

My best of luck to your little boy.
