colon cancer.. what can me and my mom expect? |

| found out today, that my dad has cancer of the colon.. His surgery is May 7.. and the doctor said to expect to be in the hospital for up to 10 days.. My dad is 70.. Does anyone know, how one feels after such a operation? How long recovery is?.. Anything? thanks

| expect your Dad to be there the full 10 days=a bowel operation is very hard on the body=after the operation the person doesn't feel very well and it is difficult for them to move around=they have to so their bowels will work right again it takes almost a year to get feeling like your old self again =they will be up and around by the 3rd month,but it will be slow going=it is better for them to start off with soft foods to eat as well= good luck |

| christine..i'm sorry to hear about your dad..and i hope he feels better soon.
how he'll heal depends upon his surgery...where the tumor is located...the size of his tumor....and what his overall health is . all of this will determine his ability to " bounce back" after surgery. your doctor should explain all of this to you & your mom . take care. |
